Charles McDonnell

Dr. Charles H. McDonnell III, M.D., F.A.C.R., is a distinguished radiologist and leader in cancer detection research, currently serving with Sutter Medical Group in Sacramento. Board‑certified by the American Board of Radiology since 1991, he completed fellowship training in Body Imaging and MRI research at Stanford University following a diagnostic radiology residency at Duke University. Dr. McDonnell has been a principal investigator for multiple groundbreaking multi‑cancer early detection clinical trials, including PATHFINDER, REACH, and Freenome studies, contributing extensively to the advancement of blood‑based cancer diagnostics.

He has held significant leadership roles in risk management, physician insurance organizations, and medical governance, including Medical Director of Risk Management for Sutter Medical Group and President of the Sutter Physician Insurance Coalition. A Fellow of the American College of Radiology, Dr. McDonnell has authored numerous peer‑reviewed publications and presented widely at national and international conferences, shaping innovation in radiology and cancer screening.
