Auxiliary
The Eden Medical Center Auxiliary is now taking applications for volunteers over the age of 18 who would like to assist patients and visitors at our Information Desk, in our Gift Shop or as part of our Family Support Service working in the Emergency and Trauma Departments. There are many different shifts and areas of responsibility currently open.
Patient & Family Advisory Council
Eden’s Patient & Family Advisory Council is now taking applications for volunteers. The council is comprised of current or former patients and family members who contribute a minimum of four hours a month to attend the PFAC meeting – where they give input about how a hospital stay or services could be more patient and family centered.
The main criteria we are looking for are:
- Have experience as healthcare consumers (this includes being a caregiver).
- Are interested in playing an integral part in the process of continuous improvement.
- Are open minded and able to work in a collaborative environment.
- Have time to attend regular meetings.
- Possess clear, tactful communication skills.
The process for becoming an advisor includes an initial phone screen and then an interview. Additional time commitment is based on advisors’ availability and interest in the topic at hand. This is a volunteer position and is not compensated.
If you or someone you know is interested in participating as a member of this council or would like to know more about the PFAC, please contact Meri Johnson-Wicks (510) 727-3124 or email johnswm@sutterhealth.org.
Volunteer Patient Ambassadors
Are you interested in providing a compassionate ear to patients and families? Patient Ambassadors are volunteers who utilize the practice of rounding to talk and listen to patients and their families. They provide comfort measures and peer-to-peer support, which can improve their patient experience and strengthen communication with their care team. Training and coaching on how to round will be provided to all Patient Ambassadors once they have been approved.
Friendly, and positive person with the ability to listen carefully and display empathy and compassion to patients and their caregivers, please contact us! meri.johnson-wicks@sutterhealth.org or (510) 727-3124.
Benefits of Volunteering

"There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up." — John Andrew Holmes
Volunteering is a wonderful gift that can be given to patients and the community. Volunteers meet people, make new friends, use their skills and acquire new ones. They feel a sense of accomplishment and perhaps the most important benefit is satisfaction of knowing they are contributing to their community and making a difference.
