Neurocritical Care Fellowship
The CPMC Neurocritical Care Fellowship offers an immersive one or two-year opportunity to learn neurocritical care. With a focus on hands-on training and mentorship, this UCNS-accredited program will prepare you for a rewarding career in managing complex neurological cases.

Forge Your Path in Neurocritical Care
The CPMC Neurocritical Care Fellowship is designed to provide one fellow per year with foundational career training. For neurology, neurosurgery and critical care medicine, three different program tracks will equip you with the knowledge and experience needed to make a meaningful impact in your future practice.
Get hands-on clinical experience and mentorship as you assess new referrals and follow the long-term outcomes of patients. You’ll work side-by-side with leading experts within a quaternary referral center, where we provide advanced medical care with a patient-centered focus. Program locations include the CPMC Davies campus neurocritical care unit and neuro-interventional suite, the Van Ness/Geary campus neurology unit, the Eden Medical Center neurosurgery and neurotrauma unit and more.

Rana Moosavi, MD - Program DirectorWe provide our fellows with a well-rounded critical care experience that includes time in the neuro, medical, surgical, and cardiovascular intensive care units. Diverse faculty includes vascular neurologists, neurointensivists, epileptologists, and neurointerventionalists. We pay significant personal attention to the education and career growth and create a personalized schedule to reflect that.

Real-World Clinical Experience
Receive hands-on clinical experience that emphasizes tracking long-term patient outcomes and evaluating stroke referrals. Depending on the length of your program and specialty focus, rotations include neurocritical care and stroke, general medicine critical care, neurotrauma, anesthesia, surgical ICU, neuro-interventions, neuroradiology, neurophysiology and our weekly continuity clinic.


Expand Your Knowledge
Learn and lead in neurocritical care and stroke didactics, journal clubs, case conferences, grand rounds and weekly lectures.
Fellowship Requirements
For consideration into our program, you should be a graduated and board certified or eligible from an ACGME accredited residency program or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) accredited residency program in neurology, child neurology, internal medicine, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine or general surgery.
Other requirements include a California medical license and ACLS certification. Desirable but not required certifications include Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS).
For our one-year fellowship, you must have completed postgraduate fellowship training in anesthesia, surgical, neurocritical care or internal medicine critical care (six or more months).
