An enthusiastic and dedicated core faculty provide individualized attention to residents in an environment where education is highly valued. Clinical attending staff provides supervision in various modalities and disciplines in psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy and specialized areas of psychiatry. Clinical sites are rich and diverse with the majority of time spent on the CPMC Davies and CPMC Van Ness campuses. The academic, cultural and social resources of the Bay Area contribute to an exciting training environment in a residency program that values the individual.

The residency program provides an in-depth, well-rounded curriculum that draws from a mix of philosophies and experience. It benefits from strong institutional alliances with the academic and professional resources of San Francisco. The patient base is diverse clinically, culturally, and socioeconomically, offering residents the chance to participate in a full spectrum of clinical activity with patients of all ages and with a wide range of psychiatric disorders.

California Pacific Medical Center has a long tradition of outstanding clinical services and a commitment to high quality graduate education. CPMC’s Davies Campus is near Duboce Triangle and the Castro, and is the home base for our department and training program. The adult inpatient unit and outpatient mental health clinic are both located there. Most of our faculty are at this site and run the clinical services. This allows for cohesion, continuity of care, and ongoing attention to quality clinical care and education. CPMC’s Van Ness Campus is located near Japantown, Little Saigon, and the Tenderloin, and is a tertiary care center for medicine, surgery, and many subspecialties. Our residents spend time at this location in the emergency room and on the consult-liaison service. They also spend time at CPMC’s Mission Bernal Campus on the border of the Outer Mission and Bernal Heights. Residents and faculty are constantly in easy access to each other, allowing for the best possible apprenticeship training.
