JANOS ZAHAJSZKY: Hello, and welcome.
I'm Dr. Janos Zahajszky, an outpatient psychiatrist
and the psychiatry residency training director
here at California Pacific Medical Center.
I'm joined by Dr. Mike Nguyen, our associate program director,
who also happens to be one of our proud graduates
and now leads our emergency psychiatry service.
We're so glad you're here to learn more about our program,
and we're excited to share what makes training at CPMC
truly special.
Our residency was founded in 1961.
And from the beginning, we have combined personalized mentorship
with broad clinical experience.
Our mission is to develop psychiatrists who are not only
clinically skilled but also compassionate, curious,
and ready to lead in a rapidly changing world of mental health
care.
Our residents train across multiple CPMC campuses
in San Francisco, each with its own character and strengths, all
within Sutter Health, one of California's largest and most
innovative healthcare systems.
You'll care for a diverse and dynamic patient
population alongside a talented team of psychiatrists,
psychologists, social workers, and nurses.
Our state of the art inpatient unit
and recently renovated outpatient clinic
are designed to provide safe, welcoming spaces
for both excellent care and hands-on learning.
MICHAEL NGUYEN: In addition to training at our CPMC campuses,
our residents rotate through an incredible variety
of affiliated sites across the Bay Area.
You'll have opportunities to work
at places like the San Francisco Free Clinic,
San Quentin State Prison, Benioff Children's Hospital
in Oakland, The McAuley Adolescent Inpatient
Unit at St. Mary's, and Mindful Health Solutions, among others.
These experiences expose our residents
to every aspect of psychiatry, from community based
and forensic care to cutting-edge neuromodulation
and integrated health.
By graduation, our residents are confident, well-rounded
clinicians ready for any career that they choose,
whether that's fellowship training, academic medicine,
public service, or private practice.
JANOS ZAHAJSZKY: Education is truly the heart of our program.
You'll participate in journal clubs, case conferences,
morbidity and mortality reviews, quality improvement projects,
and a robust didactic curriculum that spans
all areas of psychiatry.
We also emphasize leadership and teaching.
Our residents take on roles guiding medical students,
mentoring junior residents, leading clinical discussions,
and serving as chief residents.
Our goal is to provide a collaborative, inclusive, and
intellectually stimulating environment that
helps you grow not only as a psychiatrist
but also as a person.
MICHAEL NGUYEN: We're also proud of our close collaboration
with CPMC's Graduate Medical Education Office
and our academic partnership with Dartmouth Medical School.
Our faculty are dedicated teachers and mentors.
They are approachable, supportive, and deeply invested
in your success.
Resident feedback truly shapes our program,
and we're always evolving based on what our trainees value
most in their education.
