California Pacific Medical Center
Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship
Experience a rigorous, comprehensive training fellowship at one of Sutter Health’s premier referral centers. Extensive hands-on experience and participation in clinical research will prepare you for a leading pulmonary and critical care medicine career.

Exceptional Experiences
Our program offers unmatched clinical experiences. At Highland Hospital, you’ll rotate through the East Bay’s only Level 1 Trauma Center, improve your ultrasound skills, and participate in a tuberculosis clinic. In our tertiary/quaternary referral center, you’ll see a broad range of patients, including those undergoing liver, kidney, or heart transplantation.

Personalized Support
Receive individual guidance from experienced faculty with a 4:1 faculty-to-trainee ratio.

Specialty Clinic Exposure
Rotate through specialty clinics, including away rotations for Sleep and Lung Transplants. You’ll experience diverse clinical settings and patient groups, from a high-volume referral center to a county hospital serving underserved communities.

Extensive Didactics
Enrich your fellowship experience with core curriculum conferences, the UCSF Pulmonary and Critical Care Physiology series, weekly Thoracic Tumor Board conferences, regular interstitial lung disease, morbidity and mortality, and pathology conferences.
Priority Procedural Access
Perform procedures including EBUS-TBNA, robotic lung nodule biopsies and percutaneous tracheostomies, without competition from other fellowships.
Nationally-Accredited Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center
Learn to care for patients with cystic fibrosis as part of a team of experts, including pulmonologists, nutritionists, social workers and mental health specialists.
Where Work-Life Balance Matters
Hone your skills while still having time to spend with family and friends, exploring the Bay area or just relaxing. As a fellow here, you won’t take at-home calls, cover unexpected absences or work more than an average of one weekend per month.
Prestigious Research Opportunities
Develop research projects with support from Sutter and CPMC. You’ll also have the chance to present your work at major conferences like the American Thoracic Society.
Living in San Francisco
There’s always something to explore in this innovative and forward-thinking hub of diverse communities. San Francisco’s unique atmosphere blends outdoor adventures in famous natural landscapes with world-class cultural experiences in a bustling urban metropolis.
