Resident and Fellow Wellness
A Path of Lifelong Learning and Well-being
At Sutter Health GME, we envision a future where well-being is integral to our journey of developing compassionate, collaborative, and innovative physician leaders. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment that nurtures the personal and professional growth of our trainees, ensuring they thrive both as individuals and as dedicated healthcare providers. By prioritizing well-being, we aim to enhance the quality of care, promote resilience, and drive positive outcomes for the patients and communities we serve.

There are many domains of well-being and balance looks different for each resident. Examples of how balance of well-being may look are:
- Intellectual: protected time for didactics; educational fund to pay for CME conferences; Sutter Health medical library/journals; GME Office of Scholarly Activity
- Environmental: safe/affordable parking; housing stipend
- Emotional: Employee Assistant Program (EAP) for counseling; debriefing with attending; numerous mentors available
- Financial: financial advisors through EAP; competitive salary for residents
- Social: support groups; teambuilding events; assigned advisors and resident leaders
- Spiritual: chaplains for debrief in hospitals; access to nature throughout NorCal; community volunteer opportunities
- Occupational: Office of Well-being available for all residents and faculty (e.g. Narrative Medicine, Peer support); GME specific HR support; Epic
coaching - Physical: sleep fatigue mitigation; food available for all trainees; ergonomic spaces
