About the Program
The San Francisco Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship offers highly specialized training in a unique private practice academic environment. While carrying on the tradition of providing the highest level of training in tertiary and revision reconstructive shoulder and elbow surgery, the fellowship also offers broad exposure to all facets of shoulder and elbow surgery, including fracture management and sports medicine components.
Doctors Jim Kelly and Mark Schrumpf, who are partners in California Pacific Orthopaedics, the largest and highest volume private orthopaedic practice in San Francisco, lead the fellowship. Therefore, additional operative experience is available and encouraged from our other shoulder specialist partners, Doctors Belzer, Chan and Dickinson, sports shoulder specialists, and Doctors Green and Valone, elbow specialists.
Our most recent fellow’s experience encompassed over 450 cases. Approximately 1/2 of the cases are primary or revision arthroplasty, 1/4 are arthroscopic cases, and the remainder are a combination including fracture care, tendon reconstruction or repair, open instability, and other miscellaneous cases. Approximately 10% of the cases are elbow operations. The fellow case list is available upon request.
Most fellows live in the vibrant city of San Francisco, a world class destination with opportunities in virtually every athletic and cultural endeavor. In minutes you can be in a National Park network extending hundreds of miles, eating in a restaurant of any type, listening to a symphony, watching a professional baseball, basketball or football team, biking, hiking, sailing, or just enjoying the beauty of one of the most scenic cities in the world.
