NAN HONG: California Pacific Medical Center's PGY1 residency
program is a one-year, postgraduate training
opportunity to gain experience in both
the clinical and administrative aspects of hospital pharmacy.
California Pacific Medical Center, also known as CPMC,
is part of a larger hospital system, Sutter Health,
and is a flagship quaternary referral center
and has a large and active research division.
This environment offers new challenges and opportunities
for developing and improving professional skills.
CPMC provides care to the unique and diverse patient population
of San Francisco across four unique campuses--
the Van Ness campus, our flagship hospital;
Mission Bernal campus; the Davies campus;
and the Pacific Heights Outpatient Infusion Center,
with each having their own unique characteristics
and services.
As a teaching institution, preceptors
will guide the resident through their clinical experiences
on each rotation.
Residents will collaborate with other health care providers
and training on inter-professional clinical
management teams and leadership committees.
We offer six core rotations and seven elective rotations
that can be customizable to the interests of the resident.
Our focus is on acute care, ICU, oncology, transplantation,
and the development of future pharmacy leaders.
Sutter Health leads the transformation of health care
to achieve the highest levels of quality, access,
and affordability.
We provide quality pharmaceutical care
to our patients with compassion, teamwork,
and continuous improvement.
We also instill proficiency and confidence
in our residents to provide exceptional pharmaceutical
care.
JASON XIE: I was the pharmacy resident
here at CPMC in 2019 to 2020.
Looking back, the year was intense,
but I am glad I had the experience.
As a resident, I felt like I played an intricate role
in the pharmacy department.
Not only did I gain exposure to various pharmacy clinical
services, but I also worked closely with the management
in formulating hospital policies.
All of these experiences help me to understand
how hospital operations are implemented
to continuously improve patient care and safety.
There was always many opportunities
to grow and learn during my residency,
and after the completion of my residency training,
I decided to stay at CPMC as I grew to like the pharmacy team,
and I enjoyed what I was doing.
Currently, I am one of the emergency department
pharmacists, and I help mentor our residents
throughout the residency program.
CINDY WEN: When I was a fourth year pharmacy student,
I had two APP rotations as CPMC where I had great learning
experiences through working closely with my preceptors
and being part of the multidisciplinary team.
In addition to the collaborative environment,
CPMC PGY1 pharmacy residency program
provides a wide variety of acute care rotations including
transplant medicine, oncology, NICU,
and emergency medicine that allow the pharmacy
residents to become well-rounded clinical pharmacists.
Our program also provides longitudinal pharmacy
administration rotation where pharmacy residents will
have the opportunity to work closely with physicians,
nursing leadership, and pharmacy leadership
to develop interpersonal and management skills.
As a PGY1 pharmacy resident at CPMC,
I have been given the tools, resources, and mentorship
to succeed in my career to become
a well-rounded clinical pharmacist.
TUAN JOHN PHAM: As an aspiring clinical pharmacist,
I really want to expand upon my clinical, administrative, and
leadership skills.
I also strongly believe in collaborations
and working together to improve the health
outcomes of our patients.
I want to challenge myself to become the best
well-rounded pharmacist that I can be.
The PGY1 pharmacy residency program here at CPMC
provides a comprehensive learning experience
that allows me to practice within a variety of acute care
settings while being able to also collaborate closely
with other health care professionals.
Our preceptors are fully invested
in the personal and professional developments of the residents.
My learning experience here has been nothing but special.
I truly believe that after the completion of the program,
residents are trained to become advocates
for patients and leaders within the profession.
KENNETH WOO: Thank you for your interest in CPMC
and potentially joining our team.
I started my career many years ago at CPMC as a resident,
and the residency program provided me
the foundation to grow in my interests over the years.
The multiple rotations and longitudinal administrative
experience all complimented my career path
from staff pharmacist, clinical pharmacist, med safety
coordinator, manager, to now director.
In essence, after completion of this program,
you will be a well-rounded pharmacist equipped
with the tools to help you succeed
in whatever pharmacy career path you choose.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
