About Me

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Mittal’s decision to pursue medicine and orthopedics first developed from his grandparents. He grew to care deeply for his grandparents and was affected when his grandmother started to use a wheelchair for her arthritic knees. Seeing the impact of bilateral knee replacements on her mobility and livelihood inspired him to choose a career in orthopedics and ultimately joint replacement.

He completed his residency training at UCSF-St. Mary’s Medical Center and pursued his specialization training in joint replacement surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School. At the world’s largest hospital based research institution and birthplace of joint replacement surgery in the United States, he was exposed to the newest and most innovative techniques in partial and total joint replacement as well as the highest complexity of cases. He aims to treat all his patients like members of his own family, providing compassionate, patient centric care and using technology and minimally invasive techniques to allow for the best outcomes and recovery. He believes strongly in the importance of both non-operative and operative modalities for joint pain and likes to partner with his patients to select the best treatment option available.

He was born and raised in the Bay Area and feel fortunate to be a member of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, where he received his own medical care from childhood to adulthood starting at the Sunnyvale clinic. He strives to do his best to care for the community in which he was raised.

Community Activities

He is a proud member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Western Orthopedic Association. He is an avid Bay Area sports fan and enjoys watching the 49ers, Giants, Warriors, and Sharks!

Personal Interests

In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, watching sports, spending time with friends and family, and playing golf.
