Congratulations! We’re excited to be by your side as you welcome the newest member of your family. At Eden Medical Center’s Birth Center in Castro Valley, California, you’ll find family-centered maternity care and a skilled, compassionate team. We have spacious and private labor and delivery suites with amenities to make you feel at home through your entire birth experience. All rooms have a private bathroom and accommodations for family members to stay overnight. We pride ourselves on giving you the opportunity to bond with your baby in a quiet, beautiful setting.
We have state-of-the-art equipment, technology and highly trained staff to ensure the best care for you and your baby. We understand that every birth is unique, and we’re dedicated to working with you to create the best experience possible for you and your family.

Visitor Hours and Information
Support persons are welcome in the birth center at any time. For visits after 8:00 pm, inform the nurses so they can make arrangements to not to disturb other patients and babies.
Visiting hours for friends and family are 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm daily. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Parking
Free valet parking.
Free parking is available in the multistory parking garage and in the lots around the hospital. The fifth and sixth levels of the garage are designated patient parking. A walkway to the hospital is on the fifth level of the garage.
Public Transportation
The Castro Valley BART Station, on the Pleasanton/Dublin line, is located at 3301 Norbridge Drive in Castro Valley, about 1.3 miles from Eden Medical Center. For information about AC Transit bus lines, visit actransit.org.

You can sign up online for a virtual or in-person tour of our birth center or call 510-727-8496.
Come in when contractions are 5 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute each, for 1 hour.
Come sooner if you experience any of these:
- Your water breaks
- Bleeding like a period
- Severe pain
- Decreased baby movement
- You feel something isn’t right

You’ll go to triage first so we can check you and your baby.
We will:
- Check your vital signs
- Monitor the baby’s heartbeat
- Examine your cervix if needed
- Decide whether you’re in active labor
If you’re ready to deliver, you’ll move to a birth room. If not, we’ll give guidance on next steps.
We’ll review your birth plan when you arrive and support your preferences when safe.
If medical needs change, we’ll explain why and decide next steps with you. You can also create your preferences at the hospital if you don’t have a written plan. For help creating your plan, you can use American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologist’s sample birth plan template.
We keep you informed, ask permission before procedures and include you in decisions.
Your obstetrician, midwife and nurses at Eden Medical Center work together so your care stays consistent. We support comfort measures, your support person and your preferences whenever medically safe.
Yes. Your support person can usually stay during labor, birth and recovery. They can help with comfort, communication and bonding after delivery.
After delivery you’ll receive:
- Lactation support in the hospital
- Education on recovery and newborn care
- Follow-up care guidance
- Access to ongoing services at Sutter
We also provide resources for postpartum mood concerns and physical recovery, including a virtual Perinatal Intensive Outpatient Program.
Yes. Free medical interpreters are available 24/7 in person, by phone or video.
