About Me

Philosophy of Care

Dr. David Leslie is a primary care sports medicine physician who has recently moved to Sacramento, CA to join Sutter Health to help grow and develop their non-operative sports medicine program. He is going to help care for the Sacramento Kings and will be their lead medical team physician.

He previously lived in New Orleans from 2018-2026 and worked at the Ochsner Andrews Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute. He was one of the head medical physicians for the New Orleans Saints, providing medical and sideline care. He was also a lead team physician for several colleges in New Orleans, including Loyola University New Orleans (NAIA), the University of New Orleans (NCAA D1), and Delgado Community College. He was also involved with several soccer clubs in Louisiana as a head medical physician for the New Orleans Jesters (NPSL) and the Louisiana Fire Juniors soccer clubs.

Dr. Leslie has a passion for ringside medicine. He is an active member and is a certified ringside physician for the Association of Ringside Physicians and is a USA Boxing certified physician and has covered local and national boxing events. He has experience and interest in other ringside sports, including professional wrestling and he has covered amateur and professional combat sports events since 2014, including professional MMA (UFC, PFL) and bareknuckle boxing (BKFC) events.

He also has extensive experience and interest in helping the Special Olympics, as he has been both a Medical Director and Clinical Director for Healthy Athletes/MedFest (a medical screening and physicals service for those in the community with special needs) in Louisiana. He has also organized and helped cover state-wide competitions in Michigan and Louisiana.

He is an active member of the AOASM and AMSSM. He completed his family medicine residency at McLaren Greater Lansing through Michigan State University and his primary care sports medicine fellowship at Virginia Tech. He is board-certified in family medicine and primary care sports medicine.

He has a passion for diagnostic ultrasound, ultrasound-guided injections, orthobiologics including PRP and mesenchymal stem cell injections, minimally invasive tenotomy procedures, nerve and fascial hydrodissections procedures, and osteopathic manipulation. All are a major focus of his sports medicine practice.

Personal Interests

He is originally from Michigan and is married to his wife, Lauren, who is also a primary care sports medicine physician at Sutter Health. They have four daughters and all are very excited to begin their “family adventure” to California.
