James M. Friedman, M.D.

Dr. Friedman is an outdoor and sports enthusiast who understands the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle free from injury and pain. He is passionate about injury prevention and works to maximize his patients’ ability to participate in the activities they enjoy.

His clinic brings together expertise from multiple fields—including orthopedics, physical therapy, and peripheral nerve care—to ensure every patient has access to cutting‑edge diagnostic tools and individualized treatment plans. Dr. Friedman is committed to delivering the highest level of care and achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients.

His clinical interests include knee conditions such as ACL and ligament injuries, cartilage repair, meniscus repair and transplant, and chronic pain; hip conditions including labral injuries, impingement, and greater trochanteric bursitis; and shoulder conditions such as rotator cuff tears, instability, impingement, and chronic pain.

Dr. Friedman serves as the Head Team Physician for the University of the Pacific and as an Assistant Team Physician for St. Mary’s High School football. He is a member of the San Joaquin Medical Society (SJMS), the California Orthopaedic Association (COA), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the Western Orthopaedic Association (WOA). He also contributes academically as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM) and the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine (OJSM).

Outside of medicine, Dr. Friedman values spending time with his family, including his three children. He enjoys running, rock climbing, snowboarding, hiking, traveling, and exploring history.
