Ryan A. McConnell, M.D.

Dr. McConnell is committed to providing compassionate, high-quality, patient-centered care through partnership, careful listening, and clear communication. He believes patient education is essential in managing chronic conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and works closely with patients to help them understand the available medical evidence and make informed decisions that align with their goals and preferences. His personal experience living with Crohn's disease reinforces the importance of accessible, empathetic care and a deep understanding of the impact inflammatory bowel disease can have on every aspect of a person's life, including work, school, family relationships, travel, and emotional well-being.

As Director of Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Dr. McConnell focuses on the care of patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He completed an Advanced Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellowship at UCSF and has expertise in managing the full spectrum of inflammatory bowel disease, from mild to complex cases. He is involved in inflammatory bowel disease clinical research, serves as an outpatient clinic preceptor for California Pacific Medical Center gastroenterology fellows, and participates in the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation IBD Qorus National Quality Improvement Collaborative, a Gold Status site. He is also affiliated with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation Northern California Chapter, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the Intestinal Bowel Ultrasound Group (IBUS), and the Northern California Society for Clinical Gastroenterology.

Dr. McConnell is married and enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. Outside of Medicine, he enjoys hiking, swimming, attending live music events, and cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.
