Clinical Trial FAQs

Information for patients and study volunteers, including frequently asked questions.

The study is called BOOM-IBD2. It uses a small device that sends gentle electrical signals to a nerve that helps with bowel function. This therapy is called sacral neuromodulation, and it’s been used to treat fecal incontinence and overactive bladder for almost 30 years. Now, it’s being studied to see how it might also help people with UC by supporting the brain-gut connection and lowering inflammation.

Here are a few highlights:

  • It’s a non-drug therapy — a different approach that doesn’t involve more medication.
  • You can stay on your current UC treatment — no need to stop or switch your existing medications
  • The procedure is minimally invasive, takes less than an hour, and you can go home the same day.
  • The device is placed just under the skin, so nothing is visible outside the body.
  • Participation is completely voluntary and at no cost to you.
