Sarah A. Chen, M.D.

Sarah Chen, MD is committed to providing advanced cardiothoracic surgical care for our community, bringing surgical precision with compassionate support. Her training spans minimally invasive thoracic surgery to comprehensive cardiac surgery with an emphasis on aortic procedures, and she relies on close partnerships with a wonderful multidisciplinary team that strives to deliver optimal patient outcomes.

Dr. Chen is an award-winning Board Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI), with a deep passion for infusing her art background into her clinical practice, ranging from 3D printing for pre-operative planning to illustrating novel surgical techniques. She loves to draw for her patients and wholeheartedly believes in blending art with medicine to better explain their diagnoses, treatment options, and recovery expectations, to truly provide informed, patient-centered care.

Dr. Chen is also a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Association of Medical Illustrators. She also serves on the Editorial Board for the Annals of Thoracic Surgery as the official Illustrator.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Chen enjoys cardio kickboxing, martial arts, Zumba, traveling, and nail art.
