Sonal J Advani, M.D.

I bring my unique background to the practice of medicine having received my medical education and training in three different countries (and continents) India, The Soviet Union, and the United States. After my medical education in Ukraine, I returned to India to practice medicine where I also did my post-graduate work in community medicine or epidemiology. After moving to the US and completing my residency, I practiced hospital medicine for over four years before joining Palo Alto Medical Foundation.

I believe my varied and diverse educational and professional background which includes the treatment of patients in varying locations, cultures, and countries along with my work in the hospital medicine is invaluable in my current work as a primary care physician. In addition to English, I am fluent in spoken Russian, Hindi and Punjabi.

What I have learned in my many years of practicing medicine around the world is that a physician's job is much more than just treating illness or disease. Rather, it also involves displaying compassion and empathy. I believe in taking the time to listen to my patients' medical complaints carefully and attentively. I am very committed to my patients and care deeply about each one. Working as a primary care physician allows me to build long-term relationships with my patients. I not only strive to apply evidenced based medicine to my practice but also take the time to discuss complex cases with other colleagues. I spend time to research clinically challenging or esoteric conditions with the goal of providing the best possible service to my patients and getting better as a professional.

As a wise man once said: "Time And health are two precious assets that we don't recognize and appreciate until they have been depleted." I believe I can help you preserve health. I am a strong believer in preventive medicine and, therefore, encourage patients to make healthy lifestyle choices, get regular screenings and follow up appointments. I also believe that the best results in patient care are achieved by open and candid communications and true partnership between a physician and a patient.

Dr Advani is married and has two girls (twins). She loves spending time with her kids, running, reading, oil painting and baking.
