Approach to care

Dr. Tim Gilligan is a medical oncologist with 25 years experience treating urological cancers, and teaching and studying healthcare communication. He is committed to treating the whole person, not just the illness. Cancer affects our physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational well-being, and all of these deserve attention. Dr. Gilligan believes that every patient deserves outstanding care, and that the best clinical and medical decisions occur when clinicians and patients partner in shared decision-making. Oncologists bring expertise in medicine and cancer and patients bring expertise in their lived experience and their values and priorities. All of these need to be taken into account to arrive at a plan that is right for the patient.

Outside of medicine

Dr. Gilligan is the proud father of two adult children and an enthusiastic soccer dad. His hobbies and interests include portrait photography, tennis and cooking. A former English Literature major, he also enjoys novels and poetry.
