Hernan A. Bazan, MD, DFSVS, FACS, is Chief of the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) and Sutter West Bay Medical Group in San Francisco. He is an academic vascular surgeon specializing in complex aortic, carotid, and peripheral arterial disease, with particular expertise in abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms and stroke-related carotid interventions.
Dr. Bazan is nationally recognized for his work in vascular innovation, translational research, and surgical education. His research focuses on carotid plaque vulnerability, stroke prevention, predictive analytics, and the development of novel non-opioid therapies. He is co-inventor on multiple patents and co-founder of biotechnology companies advancing treatments for pain management and stroke neuroprotection. His work has earned him the 2024 NIH HEAL Director’s Trailblazer Award. Dr. Bazan is committed to advancing patient care through innovation, collaboration, and physician leadership.
