Inpatient Detoxification

If you or someone you know needs immediate help with drug or alcohol detoxification, the caring professionals at Mills-Peninsula can help. We have the teams and experience to help you or a loved one withdraw safely in a confidential hospital program.

Acute detoxification is a form of substance abuse treatment in which a person is weaned off alcohol or drugs with the help of medical supervision.

Detoxification is a complex medical process that usually takes three to five days, depending on the substance. Medication-supported detoxification is often necessary to ensure safe withdrawal.

Substance Abuse Treatment

Mills-Peninsula substance abuse treatment centers provide intensive medical management of acute detoxification for adults age 18 and older in a confidential hospital unit.

We use the most current medications designed to support detoxification, alleviate symptoms and maintain sobriety. Higher doses of these medications may be used to control early symptoms. Doses are then gradually reduced over several days.

Acute detoxification services are provided by a multidisciplinary team. Admitting doctors are trained in addiction medicine. They are supported by psychiatric staff to care for patients with a dual diagnosis.

Our licensed nursing staff and our family and chemical dependency therapists are highly experienced and focus solely on safe detoxification and comprehensive planning for recovery.

Acute detoxification is followed by rehabilitation treatment. This may include brief inpatient stabilization, a referral for residential day treatment or participation in our intensive outpatient program, depending on your needs.

As a patient, you will participate in the development of your own recovery plan with input from family and significant others.

Research shows that successful recovery is directly related to the length of outpatient treatment. Mills-Peninsula's outpatient program provides up to 12 weeks of treatment and support.

In addition, we provide a free, weekly aftercare group for one year for patients, family and significant others who have completed the 12-week program.

Key components of our substance abuse treatment program include:

  • Individual and family therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family education and support regarding the impact of addiction on the family
  • Relapse prevention skills
  • On-site self-help/support groups
