If your kidneys can no longer do their job, talk to your doctor about kidney transplant, an increasingly common and effective surgery that can offer you a dialysis-free future.
Since Sutter’s first kidney transplant in 1969—and more than 5,725 procedures later—our kidney transplant program has become a nationally recognized leader in providing excellent, personalized care for kidney recipients and donors. Transplant nephrologists perform about 200 kidney transplants each year and are pioneers in kidney paired donation. In fact, California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), a Sutter Health affiliate, made history in 2015 as the first California hospital to perform a six-way kidney paired exchange, or swap, among six donors and six recipients.
Concerned about constant trips to medical appointments? As part of our Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program, specialists in the Sutter Health network come to you. Physicians and nurses travel to 15 care centers across the Northern California and Nevada network to provide pre- and post-transplant care, allowing you to spend more time at home rather than traveling to CPMC specialists in San Francisco, where the transplant surgeries occur.
HealthGrades has named CPMC as one of 19 top transplant centers nationwide. In 2013, CPMC was the only U.S. hospital with kidney and liver transplant programs that rated higher-than-expected in one- and three-year adult patient survival rates—the national best, according to the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.
