The percentage of patients with ischemic strokes (when blood supply to the brain is blocked) arriving at the emergency department who are eligible to receive Tenecteplase (a clot dissolving medication given intravenously) to potentially reverse the effect of an acute stroke.
In 2024, we provided intravenous thrombolytic therapy within 30 minutes of presentation to eligible patients at a higher rate than most stroke centers in California, as well as nationally.

Stroke treatment is time sensitive. Providing treatment as soon as possible after arrival to eligible patients is an important contributor to reducing the risk of disability in stroke.
We offer advanced Neurointerventional treatment and other services including:
- Advanced imaging technology to diagnose a stroke and determine the best treatment approach quickly and accurately.
- We offer the latest interventional neuroradiology treatments, including stent retrievers that grasp blood clots and suction them out while a stroke is in progress.
At Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, we pride ourselves on offering these services to all eligible ischemic stroke patients.
When a stroke due to blocked blood flow in a large vessel occurs, emergent interventional neuroradiology treatment, called a thrombectomy may be performed in eligible patients, to restore blow flow to the brain to minimize disability.
In 2024, 88.4 % of acute stroke patients who received emergent thrombectomy treatment at our facility had successful restoration of blood flow to the brain.

The percentage of patients with ischemic strokes (when blood supply to the brain is blocked) arriving at the emergency room who can receive Tenecteplase (clot dissolving medication) to potentially reverse the effects of an acute stroke.
Tenecteplase is a "clot-busting" medication that can potentially reverse the symptoms and effects of ischemic strokes. It must be given within the first 4.5 hours of “Last known well.” Because of this narrow window of time and the unavailability of acute stroke management services, the nationwide average for this treatment is less than 5%.
We offer a full range of advanced Neurointerventional capabilities and other services including:
- Advanced imaging technology to diagnose a stroke and determine the best treatment approach quickly and accurately.
- Comprehensive surgical brain care including the latest interventional neuroradiology treatments, including stent retrievers that grasp blood clots and suction them out while a stroke is in progress.
At CPMC we pride ourselves on offering these services to all eligible ischemic stroke patients. Our physicians will often take patients for immediate lifesaving intervention that may not be treated for at other facilities. For 2022-2023, our team took 100% of eligible patients to the Neuro-Interventional Suite for treatment.

When a blood vessel is blocked in the brain, one of the most important priorities is to open that blood vessel and restore blood flow to the brain. Here at MPMC we have the expertise to restore blood flow to the brain in 91% of those who undergo a thrombectomy procedure to remove the clot.
The goal of stroke treatment is to minimize disability and restore patients to their previous functional abilities. In 2024, 36% of the patients who underwent a thrombectomy procedure at our facility were able to return home after their hospital stay. This rate is over 5% higher than that of comparable hospitals offering similar services.
