How to apply
Applications (PDF) to the Sutter Mills-Peninsula Medical Center School of Diagnostic Imaging are accepted annually from January 1 through April 1. If April 1 falls on a weekend, applications are due the following Monday.
Admission is competitive, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.
Application checklist
Submit all required materials by the application deadline:
- A completed, signed and dated application form.
- Official college transcripts showing the completion of all prerequisites.
- Two current letters of recommendation.
- A letter of intent of no more than two typed pages.
Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

- Can be handed in-person at the MPMC School of Diagnostic Imaging.
- Please see the criteria for reference letters and transcripts that get dropped off.
- Ensure all materials are sealed.
- Mailed materials are no longer accepted because of delay in receipt.

Eligibility requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold an associate degree or higher in any field.
- Complete all prerequisite courses through an accredited institution before applying.
- Earn a minimum 2.5 GPA in prerequisite courses and a minimum 2.0 GPA in all other college coursework.
- Earn a grade of C or higher in every prerequisite course.
- Complete at least 80 hours of documented healthcare volunteer or work experience.
- Patterns of course withdrawals, repeated courses, failures or academic probation may be considered during the admission review.
Prerequisite courses
All prerequisites must have been completed within the past seven years. Repeated courses must be finished before the application is submitted. Qualifying online courses may be accepted.
Human Anatomy and Physiology (lab required)
Must cover all major body systems. Courses may be completed separately with labs or as a combined sequence. If offered as a two- or three-term sequence, the entire sequence must be completed.
Intermediate Algebra or higher
Must include linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, exponents, radicals, quadratic equations, functions, systems of equations, conic sections, and exponential and logarithmic functions.
General or Conceptual Physics
Must cover mechanics, matter, heat or thermodynamics, sound, waves, electricity, magnetism, optics and modern physics.
Beginning January 2027, challenge examinations for math will no longer be administration in place of required coursework.
Healthcare experience
Applicants must complete at least 80 hours of documented volunteer service or previous work experience in a healthcare facility. The experience should:
- Include interaction with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Be completed during a continuous six-month period.
- Have taken place no more than seven years before applying.
- Occur in a setting such as a hospital, clinic, skilled nursing facility or home healthcare organization.
Applicants are responsible for finding a placement, scheduling their hours and completing the requirement. The school does not arrange volunteer assignments.
Volunteer supervisors should email the applicant’s service dates and total completed hours to MPMCradiologyschool@sutterhealth.org. This requirement may be waived when regulatory or public-health restrictions limit access to healthcare facilities.
