Our Purpose

We developed our addiction medicine fellowship to address the escalating epidemic of substance use disorders and their impact on our community wellness. We recognize the disproportionate burden of SUD on our most underserved communities and the inadequate specialty resources available to treat this population. Our fellowship helps address this urgent need by:

  • Training providers with specialty expertise in community-based addiction medicine with an emphasis on primary care and care of unhoused populations.
  • Strengthening the community of addiction medicine providers in Sonoma County to improve interagency collaboration and increase access to addiction services.
  • Contributing to the advancement of the field through research, writing, and teaching.
  • Increasing accessibility of evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders in all medical settings for all people.
  • Attracting and retaining a primary care workforce with the knowledge, skills, and interest in treating patients with complex substance use disorders in our community.
