The educational opportunities and requirements for Sutter Memorial Medical Center Family Medicine residents include conferences, lectures, journal clubs, labs, grand rounds and more. Our didactic activities are essential for the training and development of safe, competent physicians.

  • Didactics: During an academic half day each week, faculty and/or residents will present common family medicine topics, participate in healthcare systems and practice management meetings for the residency continuity clinic, and review important musculoskeletal and behavioral science topics at least monthly.
  • Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) Conferences: These conferences occur quarterly over the three years of the program. M&M Conferences are an opportunity for residents and faculty to regularly discuss practice improvement and how to mitigate and address medical errors.
  • Grand Rounds: Each month, residents on the inpatient teaching service are required to present an interesting case, educating fellow residents, attending physicians, medical students and others in attendance.
  • Journal Club: Held monthly, journal club sessions allow residents to present a recent scholarly article and guide a larger discussion between fellow residents and faculty.
  • Simulation Lab: Residents will use the simulation lab at the California State University-Stanislaus Campus in Turlock, CA. Simulation lab training will occur during orientation of the PGY-1 year and at least twice annually until graduation from residency.
