Didactic Activities

Residency education at Sutter Roseville is founded on establishing a strong base of clinical and scientific knowledge essential to the practice of neurology. Held at regular intervals throughout the academic year, our didactic sessions are led by program faculty and distinguished guest speakers from both the local community and external institutions.

  • Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) Conferences – These conferences occur monthly. M&M Conferences are an opportunity for residents and faculty to regularly discuss practice improvement and how to mitigate and address medical errors. Residents will present one Morbidity and Mortality case each year, with guidance from a faculty member.
  • Basic Science Conference – On a weekly basis, faculty will present basic science conferences with support from senior and chief residents.
  • Clinical Conference – Our clinical conferences are held weekly, and presentations include topics from the core curriculum, ethics, social/medical equity and other social issues, and practice of neurology medicine.
  • Grand Rounds – Each month, fourth‑year residents are required to present a topic of interest to educate fellow residents, attending physicians, medical students, and others in attendance.
  • Journal Club – Held monthly, journal club sessions allow residents to present a recent scholarly article and guide a larger discussion between fellow residents and faculty.
  • Simulation Lab – Residents will use a simulation lab. Simulation lab training will occur during orientation of the PGY-1 year and at least twice annually until graduation from residency.
  • Professional development / leadership conferences – These conferences are specifically designed to support residents' growth beyond clinical training by focusing on leadership, quality improvement, and professional skills essential in modern healthcare environments. Residents will participate in interactive workshops, panel discussions, and mentorship sessions.
