The Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Sutter Roseville offers a structured didactic curriculum that complements clinical training and prepares fellows for board certification in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Our program emphasizes interactive learning, evidence-based practice, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Core Conferences

Fellows participate in a weekly Core Didactic Conference aligned with the ABIM blueprint, ensuring comprehensive coverage of pulmonary and critical care medicine. Additional learning activities include weekly case-based conferences, monthly journal clubs, and morbidity and mortality conferences, all designed to strengthen skills in critical appraisal, systems-based improvement, and patient safety.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Collaboration is central to our curriculum. Fellows take part in multidisciplinary ICU conferences alongside colleagues from surgery, anesthesia, emergency medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and respiratory therapy—gaining exposure to diverse perspectives and approaches to high-acuity care.

Simulation & Procedural Training

Simulation-based education and procedural workshops are held throughout the year, providing structured practice in high-stakes scenarios such as airway emergencies, code leadership, and ECMO initiation. Fellows also receive instruction in core and advanced procedures, including chest tubes, pleural catheters, thoracentesis, and bronchoscopy. Exposure to advanced interventional pulmonology techniques, such as navigational bronchoscopy and pleural interventions, further enhances procedural competence.

Didactic Curriculum & Board Review

The didactic curriculum follows a rotating schedule covering essential domains such as mechanical ventilation, ARDS, shock and hemodynamics, pulmonary infections, interstitial and obstructive lung diseases, pulmonary hypertension, pleural disease, thoracic oncology, sleep medicine, and professionalism. Structured board review sessions are integrated throughout training to prepare fellows for certification and independent practice.
