Sutter Roseville Medical Center (SRMC) is a key part of the Sutter Health network which is comprised of 26 acute care hospitals in Northern and Central California. Located 20 miles east of Sacramento in one of the fastest growing regions in Northern California, SRMC is a 418-bed community hospital recognized as a Level II Trauma Center, Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center, STEMI Receiving Center, and includes a Level III NICU. Serving as a referral center for several local hospitals and a population of 700,000 patients, SRMC treats a diverse patient population speaking over 100 languages and coming from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.

The SRMC Emergency Department (ED) treats nearly 120,000 patients annually. The ED pharmacy service provides 24/7 coverage across three daily pharmacist shifts, complemented by a separate medication reconciliation program staffed by technicians. The robust ED clinical pharmacy services offered at SRMC represent the dedication and expertise of a strong staff with experience and specialty training in emergency medicine. The practice serves as a resource for other ED pharmacy programs throughout the Sutter Health system. Nearly all healthcare disciplines offer learning opportunities in the ED. In 2023, the medical staff began an emergency medicine residency program which offers an elective rotation in pharmacology precepted by our ED pharmacy staff.

The Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY2) Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Program seeks to further refine the general skillset of those who have successfully completed a PGY1. By attaining a specialized focus of knowledge and competency in emergency medicine, the resident pharmacist will be fully prepared to staff in the ED setting upon graduation from the program. This pre-candidate status program was developed according to regulations and standards established by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and is currently in pre-candidate status.
