About Me

Philosophy of Care

As a physician, Dr. Edward Holt sees his role as a liaison between patients and medical science. He has spent years studying biology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, followed by training to apply that knowledge to real-world clinical problems. He is confident in his understanding of liver disease and his ability to connect patients with the most up-to-date treatments.

Dr. Holt also recognizes that medicine is not one-size-fits-all. Not every patient fits the textbook, and not every treatment works equally well for everyone. Even patients with the same condition may have different goals or preferences. These nuances make medicine not just a science, but an art. He brings his expertise to each patient encounter, but believes the best outcomes are those that patients understand and choose—ones that make sense both biologically and psychologically. Patient understanding and autonomy are central to his practice.

Dr. Holt is also committed to physician education. He believes that teaching both the science and the art of medicine is essential to preparing the next generation of physicians. He is proud to be increasingly involved in graduate medical education at Sutter and in building strong, supportive training programs.

Community Activities

Dr. Edward Holt is involved in activities with the American Liver Foundation (ALF) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).

Personal Interests
