Erica E. Weirich, M.D.

Dr. Weirich has consistently received the highest level of patient satisfaction throughout her years at PAMF. She feels this is driven by her dedication to partnering with patients to ensure continuity, close communication, and comprehensive oversight of all aspects of medical care. “I am thrilled to join the Encina practice, where I will be available to patients as I am needed and can provide the continuity that so clearly adds depth and quality to medical care. Teaching and community leadership are a natural part of the physician’s role but are increasingly difficult to coordinate in modern high-volume practices. Dr. Weirich is married with four adult children. In her spare time, Dr. Weirich enjoys snorkeling, hiking, horseback riding, and “anything that makes me laugh." She has a special love for wildlife and wild places.

Dr. Erica Weirich grew up in Maryland and attended Bryn Mawr College, followed by a 2-year full graduate fellowship in International Health, where her projects took her to sites including London, Northern Frontier Provinces in Pakistan, and the Republic of Georgia among others. She came to the Bay Area to attend Stanford Medical School in 1992, where she notes she knew she had “found home”. While studying medicine at Stanford, she also earned a Masters in the Department of Economics in International Development Policy, graduating with both degrees in 1998. She attended Stanford’s Family Medicine Residency at the San Jose Medical Center, coming to work at PAMF in 2001.

Dr. Weirich joined the Encina Practice in 2017 after 17 years of practice in Family Medicine at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Los Altos Center. In addition to seeing patients of all ages, including older adults and some 4-generation households, Dr. Weirich also serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she teaches clinical medicine and global health.

Besides caring for patients and teaching, Dr. Weirich is interested in the application of technology to address worldwide challenges in health. Within PAMF, she works as a Physician Champion assisting in the use of physician practice data to improve patient care and quality. Outside of PAMF, she directs the nonprofit Global Health Research Foundation and serves as an advisor for the Stanford Department of Engineering’s courses in medical application design.
