KEVIN LAMONT BACHAR: There are more than 90,000 patients
on the kidney transplant list and every year
around 220 kidney transplants are performed right here
at CPMC.
Since our transplant program began in 1969,
our team has completed over 6,600 kidney transplants
and over 1,600 living donor transplants.
The Living Donor Institute is our commitment
to increase our living donor transplants
to 30% of our total kidney transplant value.
SUBJECT: Thanks to my sister-in-law
becoming a living donor, I'm here now and I am enjoying life
and I am very happy with the outcome.
STEVEN KATZNELSON: When we look at the growth of a kidney
transplant program at CPMC, we can't help
but connect the reach our program has to philanthropy.
Starting with grant dollars from CPMC Foundation,
we developed computer software that
matches incompatible kidney donor
pairs, leading to early and more successful
living donor kidney transplants.
The kidney paired donation software
has led to successful transplants for over 175
patients at CPMC and over 1,700 patients worldwide.
Philanthropy has also enabled us to hire a dedicated kidney
peregrination nurse whose responsibility is
to identify such matches and coordinate the care of patient
and their family needs for successful living donor kidney
transplant.
As we look to the future of our program
and think about building out the Living Donor Institute,
we need philanthropic investors to grow this program
and reach national prominence.
We have a goal of raising $4 million over three years
to support this work we are doing for our community
and to date have raised $700,000.
On behalf of our whole team, thank you for your past support
and thank you for consideration of future support
to help our program well into the future.
