Research Training Opportunities at Sutter Health

Marshall Program

Sutter Health’s California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute (CPMCRI) hosts and mentors Austrian students from IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems (Austria) who are recipients of scholarships through the Marshall Program.

Funded by the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation, an academic exchange program was established to finance scholarships and fellowships for academic exchange between Austria and the U.S. with a special focus on universities of applied sciences and technical universities.

The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation invites U.S. and Austrian universities of applied sciences and technical universities to take part in this program and nominate their students or students from partner institutions who are interested in doing academic research abroad.

The partnership offers six-month research opportunities at CPMCRI during which six students per year receive research training in the laboratory, producing data for inclusion in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree thesis.

Cancer research, including the Cancer Avatar Project.

Research Skills

Students who train at CPMCRI will expand their skills in cell culture techniques of commercially available cell lines as well as patient-derived xenografts. They will learn several in vitro lab methods such as western blotting, cell proliferation assays, immunofluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry.
