Pediatric Emergency Care
At CPMC’s pediatric emergency room, we understand the unique needs of children.
- Doctors certified in pediatric emergency care.
- Specialists in pediatric injuries and illnesses.
- Child life specialists help children cope with illness, distress or hospitalization. Specialists are available for children having outpatient surgery, radiology tests or treatments, and care in the emergency room.
Specialty doctors are board-certified in both pediatrics and emergency medicine. They have the equipment and experience to deal with children’s emergencies, such as serious injuries and illness.
The pediatric emergency room features child-sized equipment, toys in the waiting room and private exam rooms big enough to accommodate family members. Child Life staff can help your child with coping techniques and distractions like bubbles, songs, art and puppets. If your child will need a specific test or procedure, they can also help explain what your child will experience in an age-appropriate manner.
At CPMC, your child is also surrounded by other children and families in kids-only waiting room. This creates a more child-friendly atmosphere and can prevent a child from seeing a potentially frightening adult emergency situation.
