Why Choose Sutter?

When you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911 for transport to the nearest emergency department. For urgent, non-life-threatening care, you can count on our 20+ emergency rooms that are open 24/7. To provide fast transport to emergency care, our Critical Care Transportation Network has a fleet of ambulances, helicopters and air ambulances stationed throughout Northern California.

We also offer specialized pediatric intensive care units and trauma centers recognized by The Joint Commission and the Leapfrog Group for top-quality care. While all of our hospitals treat children, CPMC Van Ness and Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, are equipped to meet children's unique needs. At these locations, we have child-sized equipment, extra-large exam rooms and doctors who are board certified in both pediatrics and emergency medicine.

Our trauma centers provide immediate access to trauma specialists, including surgery, cardiology, neurology and orthopedic services. Sutter trauma centers in Roseville, Modesto and Castro Valley are designated Level II sites. In Northern California’s rural North Coast communities, Sutter Coast Hospital and Sutter Lakeside Hospital serve as Level IV trauma centers, able to provide advanced trauma life support before transferring patients to a higher-level trauma center.

While we’re fully prepared to manage emergencies, we’ve also made significant progress in reducing the need for them. Since launching our Sepsis Initiative in 2014, we’ve reduced sepsis cases by 33%.
