Curriculum

Members of the department provide neuropsychological evaluations and consultation to children of all ages and their families. Fellows have the opportunity provide assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning services for child patients with medical and neurodevelopmental disorders and provide neuropsychology consult for hem/onc, craniofacial/cleft palate clinic, epilepsy conference and brain and spinal cord tumor board. Populations served include, but are not limited to: brain tumor, pediatric cancers, cardiology, hydrocephalus, leukemia, genetic disorders, epilepsy, pre-surgical evaluations, traumatic brain injury, Chiari malformations, metabolic disorders, birth/prenatal trauma/infarcts, and other early developmental delays/concerns. Children with comorbid psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions are also evaluated on a less frequent basis. Assessment experiences encompass a broad range of referral sources including, but not limited to, neurosurgery, neurology, cardiology, hematology/oncology, neuroradiology, craniofacial, and pediatrics.

Patients are generally evaluated in our outpatient clinic in the heart of Midtown Sacramento. Clinical training primarily consists of neuropsychological evaluations that are supervised by faculty members. Fellows are expected to ultimately participate in all aspects of evaluations including reviewing records, completing clinical interviews, test administration, providing feedback to patients and their families, report preparation, and, in some cases, providing direct consultation to other professionals. The training program provides experience in interdisciplinary clinical collaboration with various medical teams within the hospital setting.
