Education Highlights and Curriculum
- >200 Didactic hours, with over 100 of them being faculty given lectures
- >200 Mentor hours, providing supervision to the fellow during patient care hours
- 100 Observation hours in multiple settings including hand therapists, hand surgeons in clinic and in the operating room, other specialty rehab professionals
- Quarterly journal clubs
- Quarterly continuing education provided by the hand therapy faculty
- Research project which will be presented to the hand team, other education programs, and an OT/Hand Therapy organization
Program Goals:
- Educate advanced clinicians to be highly skilled patient care providers in the area of hand therapy: The fellow will develop advanced hand therapy skills that emphasize strong clinical reasoning to deliver individualized, client-centered care, integrate evidence-based practice, and uphold the highest standards of ethical practice, while consistently embodying Sutter Health’s values.
- Educate advanced clinicians to be instructors and mentors to occupational therapy interns and Fellows: The fellow will be given opportunities to participate in interdisciplinary learning where he/she/they will help lead hand therapy topics and promote efficiency of care. The fellowship will also
- Educate advanced clinicians to be competent consumers and contributors to the evidence based practice of Occupational Therapy: The fellow will participate in the hand therapy team’s quarterly journal clubs and give a presentation at one of them. The fellow will also be highly encouraged to present a research-related topic at a state or national conference.
