Symptoms of athlete's foot can include itching of the foot and between the toes,
and redness and peeling between the toes and/or around the foot in a moccasin distribution.
Frequently people with athlete's foot don't have any itching. Many people present
with dry, peeling skin and think that they have a dry skin condition which in reality
is classic athlete's foot.
Mainstay treatment is a prescription for an antifungal cream to be applied twice daily. Sometimes oral antifungal medication is used for a more recalcitrant condition. Other treatments include changing socks more frequently, alternating shoe gear from one day to the next and using antifungal spray or powder in the shoes.
