Message From Our Program Director
Dear Residency Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in the new Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at Sutter Roseville Medical Center. I am excited and privileged to serve as residency program director. Radiology residency training is a stimulating process where trainees learn to appreciate pathology in a whole new light, discovering how conditions manifest across various imaging modalities along with learning the critical art of communicating such results to optimize patient care. Meanwhile, from vascular access to image-guided biopsies or targeted cancer therapy, image-guided interventions have never been a more critical component of complete patient care. Across a comprehensive array of subspecialty rotations in our program, trainees will get exposure to the rich variety of subject matter across the imaging and interventional spectrum. Our goal is to train compassionate, highly capable and confident diagnostic radiologists.
Clinical rotations will take place at Sutter Roseville Medical Center (SRMC), Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (SMCS) as well as selected affiliated outpatient locations. Diagnostic studies performed at other Sutter hospitals, such as Sutter Davis Hospital and Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, as well as 13 outpatient imaging centers, will also contribute to the rich diversity and large volume of cases residents will have exposure to during rotations. All told, the radiology group volume exceeds 1 million cases per year.
Graduate medical education at Sutter is enjoying an exciting period of growth, with several additional successful medical and surgical residencies and fellowships already in place. GME is collaborative at Sutter and radiology residents will enjoy opportunities to regularly interact with trainees from other programs. Applicants to the radiology residency will receive preferential consideration for Sutter SRMC Transitional Year program. Scholarly activities will be supported within the radiology department and through Sutter GME’s active Office of Academic Support.
State-of-the-art lecture facilities located within a recently opened Sutter GME center are at the ready for our program’s teaching curriculum. Residents will train on high-end workstations with advanced imaging software, with full patient chart access and exposure to a range of AI imaging software.
We are thrilled to kick off the new program, with our first class of five residents starting in 2027! Please feel free to contact srmcdrresidency@sutterhealth.org with questions. On behalf of all our faculty, thank you again for you interest in our program.
Sincerely,
Paul McGinnis, M.D.
