How to Apply
Application Procedure
You must submit your application materials via email to Dr. Gumina (joseph.gumina@sutterhealth.org). Your application will not be considered complete until all supporting documents have been received. The deadline for submitting a completed application is January 3.
A completed application contains the following documents:
- Current curriculum vitae
- Unofficial transcripts from your doctoral program. Official transcripts will be required for fellows who are selected and onboarded; the official transcript must verify that all degree requirements have been met and certify the doctorate.
- Two to three letters of reference (at least two from clinical supervisors and including one from your internship training director or primary supervisor)
- Cover letter that speaks to the following:
- Your experience working with youth and families
- Why you’re applying to our training program
- Preference for placement in one or multiple of the sub-rotations
- Your goals for the post-doctoral training year
- Your short- and long-term career ambitions
If you have not defended your dissertation at the time of application, please include a letter from your dissertation chair or faculty advisor that confirms anticipated completion prior to the start of fellowship. If you have defended your dissertation, please include the date of defense in your CV or cover letter.
Selection Process
We will be following APPIC guidelines for the application, interview and selection process. Invitations to attend one of our established Interview Days will be sent via email by January 15 and a call to the candidate will be placed. Those selected for interviews will meet two psychologists in our program (the training coordinator and a second staff psychologist). Candidates will also have the opportunity to connect with current fellows.
Please email any questions about applications directly to Dr. Gumina.
After the APPIC common hold date (Feb. 24, 2025) has passed, any remaining positions will be filled on a rolling basis.

We strive to offer high-quality, culturally sensitive training and supervision that incorporates a focus on sexual, social and cultural differences. In supervision, we encourage fellows to explore the impact of their sociocultural identities on their clinical work. Each year, we aim to recruit a group of fellows with diverse backgrounds to support our mission of preparing psychologists to deliver high-quality psychological services in an ethical and culturally sensitive manner.
