A combination of individual and group supervision is provided by our experienced faculty, consisting of 2-3 hours of individual supervision and 2-3 hours of group supervision each week. In addition to meeting with Dr. Jeremy Bornstein, Director of Psychology Training Programs and primary supervisor for the program, fellows are assigned additional supervisors for individual and group supervision, depending their track, the rotation schedule, and individualized training plans.

At the start of the training year, fellows complete a self-assessment using our Fellow Evaluation Form (FEF), a comprehensive, competency-based evaluation that assesses a broad range of professional and clinical competencies. These competencies are related to our general training goals and objectives, but an individualized training plan is developed for each fellow through a collaborative process with his/her supervisors. Formal evaluations are completed at the mid-year and end-of-year using the FEF.

Fellows must remain in good standing to successfully complete the training program (i.e., no ratings of “1” or “Rarely meets practice standards” on FEF completed by primary supervisor). If a fellow is not in good standing, a remediation plan will be developed and every effort will be made to support the fellow and address any performance deficiencies. The details of fellow’s rights and our Due Process and Grievance Policies are contained in our training manual, which is provided during the orientation process.

Our approach to supervision is designed to progress the fellow’s competencies throughout the training year and to meet the California Board of Psychology requirements for post-doctoral training. Any questions about our approach to supervision, current licensing requirements, or a copy of our Due Process and Grievance Policies may be directed to Dr. Bornstein.
