Nearly 4 million children and adults in California suffer from asthma (PDF). When asthma is not adequately treated and kept under control, it can lead to many problems, such as:
- Frequent visits to the emergency department or hospitalization.
- Inability to participate in physical activities, including exercise and sports.
- Missed school and/or work days.
- Lung damage.
But asthma doesn’t have to get in the way of the activities you love. At California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), asthma experts work with you to create effective treatment plans, pinpoint triggers and develop strategies to avoid them and reduce flare-ups.
Pulmonary doctors at our Comprehensive Asthma Program also focus specifically on the disease and can individualize a comprehensive asthma plan for you so that you can better control your condition.
To help people with chronic diseases such as asthma, CPMC also offers the innovative HealthFirst program at the Mission Bernal Campus. Trained community health workers work with people in the clinic and at home to help them better manage their chronic diseases. As a result, many people have been able to reduce their medications and increase their energy. For more information, call (415) 641-2160.
