Comprehensive Health Care for Dementia

If you or a loved one has noticed some cognitive issues, such as increasing forgetfulness, inability to identify objects, or just general trouble getting your thoughts out, the brain health experts in the Sutter Health network can help.

We offer comprehensive services for people who are having cognitive issues.

Diagnostic Testing

Diagnostic testing can help determine what kind of brain health issues are occurring. Not everyone who has trouble remembering has Alzheimer’s disease. There are other types of dementia and varying treatment options. There are also other medical issues that can cause dementia-like symptoms, such as B-12 deficiency or sleep disorders, that may be treatable. A proper diagnosis is the first step toward intervention.

Treatment

Treatment can slow the progression of symptoms in some types of dementia. If cognitive issues are being caused by another medical issue, we can often treat that successfully, which may slow down progressing dementia or even reverse it.

Rehabilitation Services

Rehabilitation services such as physical therapy and occupational therapy can help a person maintain the skills to carry out daily activities for as long as possible, and maximize independence.

Educational and Supportive Services

Our educational and supportive services can help someone with dementia and their loved ones learn how to best live with the condition, cope with the challenges, and plan for the future.

Alzheimer's Disease Research

Sutter Health Alzheimer's Disease Research
Alzheimer's disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, eventually leaving the person without the ability to carry out the simplest tasks of daily living. Estimates vary, but experts suggest that as many as 5 million Americans age 65 and older have Alzheimer's disease. Research works on ways to improve diagnosis and care for Alzheimer’s disease patients, as well as focusing on a way to cure and possibly prevent it.
