Dual Diagnosis Treatment at Mills-Peninsula

Mills-Peninsula offers an integrated treatment approach for teenagers, adults and seniors who have significant mental health problems complicated by substance abuse. We seek to intervene early in situations where adolescents are experimenting with drugs and alcohol.

Our behavioral health staff provides a thorough assessment, which includes psychiatric evaluations and substance abuse assessments. Dual diagnosis treatment is tailored to your individual needs, paying careful attention to both psychiatric and chemical dependency components. We offer a full continuum of care, including inpatient, partial hospital and outpatient services, as needed.

We offer three types of dual diagnosis treatment programs.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Inpatient Program

If a hospital stay, including detoxification, is the first step needed to help you on the road to recovery, our inpatient program will provide you with the best care in a specialized hospital unit.

Our expert and compassionate staff will focus on teaching you to manage your psychiatric disorder and substance abuse problem through therapy and educational groups.

When patients are ready to progress, we provide referrals to appropriate outpatient services, including our own programs, residential treatment and/or other community services.

Partial Hospital Program

This level of care is appropriate for people with moderate to severe symptoms and sometimes provides an alternative to hospitalization.

Patients participate in structured treatment for five to six hours a day, five days a week and they go home at the end of the day. The program lasts from one week to a few weeks.

Intensive Outpatient Program

This program helps adults, seniors and adolescents who do not require the structured environment of a hospital setting, but do have mental health and substance abuse problems that interfere with their daily activities.

Features of our dual diagnosis treatment programs include:

  • Medically supervised detoxification when needed
  • Psychiatric and medical evaluation
  • Substance abuse assessment
  • Therapeutic medications (when medically indicated)
  • Individual and group substance abuse education
  • Group therapy
  • Family treatment
  • Help building a recovery-focused support system within the community. Self-help/support groups are held on-site at Mills Health Center.
  • Individualized aftercare referrals and discharge planning
