Acute Psychiatric Emergency Services at the Hospital

If your teenager is suffering from an urgent psychiatric crisis, including threatening self-harm or suicide, psychiatric crisis intervention and assessment are available at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center’s (hospital) Psychiatric Emergency Department, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Inpatient Mental Health Care for Teenagers

We provide the only inpatient program in San Mateo County for teenagers suffering from depression, thoughts of suicide, substance dependency, eating disorders and other behavioral health issues.

Intensive short-term treatment is provided in a secure nursing unit. Teenagers receive treatment in a healing environment in the 13-bed unit at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center – San Mateo Campus. Our goal is to stabilize your teen and help your teen progress through our excellent outpatient program.

Intensive Outpatient Mental Health Services for Teenagers

Therapy focuses on symptom relief, problem solving and improving your teen’s ability to function independently. Our goal is to work with the whole family in order to return your teen to an active and productive life.

Eating Disorder Program for Teenagers

Our compassionate staff provides psychiatric assessment and nutritional consultations to help teens who have a mental health problem and an eating disorder. Teenagers with eating disorders can attend an after-school program up to five days a week. They also participate in an Eating Issues Group.

After completing one of our teenage mental health outpatient programs, teenagers can find continuing support by attending group eating disorder sessions two or three times a week.
