Dr. Lam brings a wealth of experience to his position. As the chief medical officer for Sutter Health Bay Area, he helped improve both in- and out-patient quality metrics, and Sutter Bay Area achieved full performance in the Sutter Health Quality Dashboard for multiple years.
Previously, Dr. Lam was the CMO of Sutter West Bay Region. He also served as the chief medical officer for SutterSelect and Total Health and Productivity Management, vice president of network performance at Sutter Medical Network, and senior medical director of Alta Bates Medical Group and Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation.
Prior to joining Sutter, Dr. Lam was the medical director of Blue Shield of California and also worked for Blue Cross of California, reviewing the medical necessity of hospitalizations, procedures and medications.
Dr. Lam grew up in San Francisco, attending Lowell High School, and then earned his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology with an emphasis in genetics from UC Berkeley. He went on to receive his MBA from California State University in Los Angeles and his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine, where he was named a Regent Scholar. Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American College of Physician Executives, Dr. Lam later served on the UCLA clinical faculty.
