“You can’t be what you can’t see”

- Marian Wright Edelman, American civil and children’s rights activist

Tomorrow’s best medicines will be shaped by today’s leading physicians, medical scholars and clinician-researchers—people like you! At Sutter Health, we provide a training environment where every aspiring medical professional is empowered to succeed and positioned to embrace the lasting impact of mentorship.

As a resident or fellow at Sutter, you are among the bright minds we bring together to share knowledge, nurture inquiry and align around our common purpose—what’s best for patients. Your individual talents, contributions and teamwork help take excellent care to new levels. You make a real difference in the health of our patients and communities.

Guided by Experience, Driven by Excellence

Mentorship has played a defining role in my life. As a first-generation college graduate, the unwavering support of numerous mentors allowed me to see my potential and set high goals. Now, as Designated Institutional Official of Sutter’s graduate medical education (GME) programs, I aim to pay this forward every day.

Our GME programs offer a training experience that will prepare you to lead in delivering the highest-quality, compassionate, evidence-based care to patients in communities big and small. Alongside a robust curriculum, you’ll gain meaningful connections with some of the nation’s best physician-mentors who provide support and guidance to realize your future as a healthcare leader.

Flexible Training to Help You Succeed in Your Chosen Field

Sutter’s GME programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We provide training in specialty programs such as internal medicine, surgery, family medicine, psychiatry, cardiology, hematology/oncology, obstetrics-gynecology, gastroenterology, pulmonary and critical care and more.

Additionally, you can tailor your learning to suit your unique interests, whether that be primary care, hospitalist medicine, or post-residency fellowship training. We also provide you opportunities to engage in quality improvement initiatives and train in translational and clinical research.

The Next Phase of Your Medical Career Awaits

Care sites across Sutter’s integrated community-based divisions serve diverse communities in both urban and rural settings—from the bustling pulse of large cities to smaller centers with specialized and multifaceted healthcare needs.

Training sites across Sutter’s network include leading centers for the treatment of stroke, heart attack, traumatic injury, neurodegenerative illnesses, cancer and more—representing the exceptionally high-quality care we deliver in some of the fastest-growing areas across Northern California.

We are honored to welcome incoming residents and fellows like you to help shape the world-class medical training programs offered at Sutter.

Sincerely,

Dineen Greer, M.D., MPH
